High-Temperature Wrinkle Paint Spray in Harley Davidson Black and Lamborghini Black

High-temperature wrinkle paint for the original restoration of sports engines such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Harley Davidson, Lancia Stratos, Delta HF Integrale, Escort Cosworth.

This high-temperature wrinkle paint is also used for design and decorative items such as Nikon camera lenses and other decorative objects, thanks to its incredible resistance to scratches, temperature, and abrasions.

Once dried, it is more durable than catalyzed paint, but it is important to carefully follow the technical data sheet to achieve these results.

To use and apply this product correctly on engines, it is mandatory to use our high-temperature primers. For other applications in the design and architecture sectors, we recommend reading the technical data sheet and contacting our office.

It should be specified that the only difference between the liquid version and the spray can version is the difficulty of using spray for large components like some engine heads and design objects, as spray cannot evenly cover large surfaces. Therefore, for professional work, we recommend using the liquid version with body shop spray guns.

Please refer to the technical data sheet for all the application details.

Also, note that the black wrinkle paint in Lamborghini Black and Harley Davidson Black are the same paint, the same color, and the same texture, with the label differing only for marketing purposes.

Therefore, if the advertised label is not available, we will ship the one in stock.

Preparation of Metal or Alloy Parts

Parts should be:

  • Sandblasted if necessary, and if sandblasted, they must be painted with a primer within 2 hours of blasting. They should be handled with gloves to avoid oxidation and, once sandblasted, cleaned with our aviation-grade silicone remover.

  • Cleaned thoroughly and blown off with compressed air.

  • Cleaned from old paint or rust with abrasive paper if not sandblasted.

  • Prepared with one of our specific primers, either spray or catalyzed liquid WRINKLE PAINT. Do not use other brands.

If more than two hours have passed, it is recommended to sandblast again.

Preparation of Plastic Parts

Always apply the wrinkle primer on plastic parts.

Plastic parts should be:

  • Cleaned with anti-static cleaners, like our universal anti-silicone cleaner.

  • Cleaned from any old or residual paint.

  • Prepared with our WRINKLE PRIMER for plastic.

Application of Wrinkle Paint

These rules apply for both the spray paint and the professional liquid version as the application method and technique are the same.

  • If you are using the spray, just shake it and start painting.

  • If using the liquid version, shake the can for a few seconds and then place it in a spray gun with a 1.3 or 1.4 nozzle, taking care to filter the paint with appropriate body shop filters. Do not use other nozzle sizes.

  1. After applying one or two coats of primer, wait for it to dry well for an hour at room temperature.

  2. This will allow you to paint directly over the primer without needing to sand.

  3. Now, start by applying a light coat of adhesion and wait 5 minutes at room temperature, whether in summer or winter. In summer, always keep the parts in the shade, never in the sun.

  4. Apply the first full, compact coat. To understand what "full coat" means, think that once the paint is applied, the part should be glossy as if it were wet in every part. Apply the paint to the limit of drips, or the product will not work properly. Afterward, wait 5 minutes in summer and 15 minutes in winter.

  5. Apply the second full coat and wait 5 or 15 minutes depending on the season.

  6. Apply the third full coat and wait about 20 minutes in summer and 45 minutes in winter, always at room temperature, before starting to heat the parts.

Now, start the curing phase.

Curing and Wrinkling

Keep in mind that wrinkle paint dries completely in 20 days, regardless of the curing method, and 30 days if it is winter. The only way to speed up the complete hardening is to keep it in the oven for 3 hours at 50/60°C. But be careful, as prolonged exposure to temperature may change the wrinkle pattern and its appearance. The wrinkles can become very small and tight, which might not be desirable.

Curing Methods

  • Small Oven or Body Shop Oven
If you have a household oven and your parts fit, simply put it in ventilated or static mode for 1 hour at 80°C. After an hour, let the parts cool for 12 hours so they can be handled and mounted after at least 1 week.
If using a body shop oven, you can cure the parts at 70°C. Usually, it takes 10–20 minutes to fully wrinkle the painted part.

  • Heat Gun
Equip yourself with a heat gun and patiently heat the parts completely until the paint wrinkles.
Keep in mind that a heat gun heats only one spot, and the temperature will not be constant across the part. In the case of parts like motorcycle cylinders, this might result in uneven wrinkling or even parts of the paint staying smooth.
We recommend using the heat gun if at least two people are heating simultaneously. However, this method is only suitable for small objects and is not really recommended, as the heat is inconsistent and uneven.

  • Infrared Lamps
Infrared lamps are one of the best choices but must be used correctly to avoid problems. Place the parts under the lamps, wait for complete wrinkling, turn off the lamps, wait 1 week before assembling the parts, and 12 hours before handling them.

Note: The wrinkle paint only behaves correctly if the rules are followed strictly. However, the result is due to a chemical process that cannot be 100% controlled, and there are too many variables in play. The application technique, the tools used, and the conditions all vary. Therefore, Kustom Service cannot assume responsibility if the parts do not wrinkle correctly.

Reassembling Components and Gasoline Resistance

To ensure the maximum resistance of the wrinkle paint, wait 30 days if air-dried or 15 days if dried in the oven or under infrared lamps.

Parts can be assembled after 48–72 hours, but they are not fully dry and may still be delicate.

Aesthetic Features

Wrinkle paint has a unique, velvety, ribbed appearance.

The wrinkles created by the curing process can vary in size depending on the number of layers of paint applied during the process.

The most famous wrinkles are those on the Harley Davidson Nightster engine, Ferrari engines, and Lamborghini engines.

Resistance

Once dry, it is more durable than catalyzed paint, despite being a single-component paint.
